Review of World's Greatest Dad (2009) by Jonathan K — 08 Nov 2010
I hated this film. the script sounds better than it actually is. the son is so unlikable that his death hardly has an impact and I couldn't help but pine for when he would finally be off screen. then it is shown that the dad is just as terrible of a person as the son was, only a matured version.
it's supposed to be black comedy but the subject matter is so heavy and dark that it's difficult to suffer even a chuckle. I might have enjoyed this a little had it been a piece about the creative journey of a writer instead of the tragedy of a failed father and man who fails to find real redemption.
in this way it is too depressing and discouraging to be worth a viewing. I wish I would have turned it off.
