Review of World's Greatest Dad (2009) by Absolom H — 14 Mar 2011
Robin Williams is brilliant! As is Daryl Sabara, proving he has funny bones and can act greatly. An absolute pitch black comedy here, centering around death and the theme of teenage suicide. I had been looking forward to this one for quite some time, and it certainly did not disappoint.
The dark humour of the whole film is delightful to indulge in. The first 35 minutes makes the film, being full of laugh-out-loud moments and also comes to a surprisingly emotional and upsetting end. In this scene, Williams creates his most perfect piece of acting I feel.
The whole film is of course great, but the first half hour is very close to perfection. The end of the film is also hilarious, strangely uplifting, leaving you with thoughts being provoked but also a huge smile on the face.
Also bringing a fantastic music soundtrack, it is one to be watched again and again. A brilliant dark comedy, worthy of much attention. :).
