Review of World's Greatest Dad (2009) by Dan E — 04 Apr 2012
When you see that a movie is directed and written by Bobcat Goldthwait and stars Robin Williams, you expect a manic ride. A pace so fast that all you can hope for is to just hold on for the ride. That is not what you will get in this movie.
I think this is the most honest portrait of the inner workings of the "Clown's mind". The insecurities, idiosyncrasies and dark ideas that fuel the laughs. The distance that keeps so many of them living on the fringes of society. Have you ever wondered why so many comics turn to drugs, alcohol and other self destructive behaviors?
Not a happy movie but not a sad movie either. It am not sure if it is a great movie or not. I don't really care. It spoke to me and that is really all we can ever hope for from any kind of art.
