Review of World War Z (2013) by Cary G — 12 Jan 2015
World War Z = Great! What does it have in common with the book? 1) The title 2) The SEALS call the zombies "Zeke." That's it, so divorce yourself from the book going in, and I think you will enjoy the ride.
It was quiet a ride. The two hours went by quickly, with much of it spent either on the edge of your seat or with a sense of hopelessness because of the scale of the zombie outbreak. It was quite an experience seeing a global zombie movie and having Brad Pitt in the film gave it some gravitas.
He is a great actor, and he came across as a normal person thrown into a horrible situation. The movie wasn't the best zombie movie I have ever seen (that would be Shaun of the Dead), but it was impressive especially considering all the bad press surrounding it.
I was also happy that the infected were actually zombies, i.e. undead. The way the trailers were playing it, I feared they were going to be like in 28 Days Later, just really sick people. While I love 28 Days Later, I wanted a zombie movie, and that is what I got, even if they did run.
Please let there be a sequel.
