Review of World Trade Center (2006) by Aaron B — 11 Dec 2009
WORLD TRADE CENTER It's been a long time since Nic Cage decided to remind us that he was an oscar winning actor. Here he gives on of his most subdued performances. Actually he disappears into the role, and none of the usual tics come out.
In the same vein, Oliver Stone decides to tell the story of two port authority cops trapped underneath the rubble of the collapsed buildings pretty straight forward. None of the usual quirky camera for the sake of having quirky camera work, that usually permeates his films.
The story is familiar at this point and it's told without sensationalism. We do not get a huge explosion scene of the planes going into the buildings, instead we get it all from the perspective of the lead characters.
Showing that even as the police and fireman ran into the buildings they didn't know the full effect of what had happened.
