Review of Woodlawn (2015) by Spencer W — 18 Oct 2015
This evangelical film ruins a good story by trying to convert the audience. There are scenes that are included solely to promote the come to Jesus nature of the film rather than to develop the plot or characters at all.
The emphasis is on evangelical Christianity saving the day, rather than the power of faith generally or simply a more factual account of the true story. The real kicker is the Jesus song playing at the end of the movie, and the call for the audience to get involved in a Jesus movement, with a website and future dates listed BEFORE we even get to the credits.
We are a religious family, but I teach my kids that there are many valid religions, many ways to be close to God. This film says the exact opposite, and I'm sorry I took my kids to see it.
