Review of Wonderful Days (2003) by Sarah F — 06 Nov 2006
Sky Blue is over before it really begins, yet I get the feeling this was always it's intention. Coming in at around one hour and twenty minutes, the film brings itself to a sudden halt just as it begins to build. I was always suspecting that this movie was not going to totally deliver in the script department, and I was right. With a film like Sky Blue though, this doesn't make much of a difference.
I enjoyed Sky Blue for the visuals, and to me the film felt like a cinematic experiment, in which Korea took it upon themselves to show what they could really do with animation if they worked hard. To look at, Sky Blue is fantastic, lush visuals and a masterful mixture of media on screen makes for some dazzling effects; some of which I have never seen before in film.
As long as you enter Sky Blue with the right mindset then you'll probably enjoy each and every minute of it, if not it could be severely lacking for you. I myself entered it with caution, and was even left wanting something more. Is Sky Blue a bad film? No, it's anything but that. It simply needs the viewer to enter some what prepared, with an open mind, and appreciation for cinema on an artistic level. I highly reccomend Sky Blue to anyone with a passion for film.
