Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Christopher R — 01 Jun 2017
From the studio that brought you Batman v Superman: the martha showdown and suicide squad: a movie that had all the personality and charisma of a wet paper bag filled with canine excrement, comes another jarringly paced and badly plotted jumble of a movie.
Yes that is right ladies and gentlemen, please do not be fooled by all the marketing hype again as I so foolishly was. The reviews might not be so negative but the film manages to be only marginally superior to its predecessors. I could point out and go into the many flaws this film has, the curious lack of respect given to the bloodiest war in human history, the hashtag oversimplified philosophy masquerading as some profound piece on the problems of war and misogyny on our modern world, the lack of flow to the movie, the done and dusted over the top CGI battles, the outright implausibility of the entirety of the storyline and illogic of the majority of the decisions made by major characters, but in truth it is easier for me to simply say this: it has most of the problems you would expect if you are already familiar with a DCEU film.
Wonder women is by no means all bad, Gadot's performance stands out as a bright spot in the faded clutter of another DCEU shambles, Pine is pretty fun too for all the nonsense plot his character has, the colour palette of the movie is much improved from the obnoxious brown-scale of suicide squad, and Zach Snyder wasn't involved with this movie which is good, but this film certainly is not the saviour many of DC's most ardent fans so desperately want it to be, and in truth I feel for them, they deserve better than more disappointments.
To conclude, If you are in any doubt about whether to see this movie, and I know that is not many people, as there are many lemmings like myself in the world who will go and see this trash because they were invited to by a friend or whatever, please save yourself some money. Go watch something else, or do something else. If you must see this, see this in 5 years' time on the small screen, Universal do not deserve your money for such a sub-par misleadingly-marketed product. Oh, and to those giving this movie 5 stars, please, be honest with yourselves and others. If this is the *perfect* movie (which is what a 100% rating would seem to imply), movie making really is dead!
