Review of Wonder Woman (2009) by Dan F — 04 Mar 2014
The casting is spot on, and the character design is classic WW without being dated or silly- on that side of things it's very self aware. Unfortunately the stuffiness of the Amazons feels cliched, the man vs woman aspect feels forced and tiresome, and the shoehorning of Greek mythology just feels silly.
There's hope for Wonder Woman though; an iconic character with mass appeal. Thor proved that playing on ancient mythology can work, but Wonder Woman is set apart by this film because she is female.
If you make this her defining attribute, how are you ever going to push the balance of equality in the media?
