Review of Wolf Creek (2005) by Julio S — 30 Dec 2008
SPOILERS BELOW! This is an inbetween liked and didn't like - but I'm skewing toward didn't like. Reading some other reviews about how graphic it was makes me wonder if either a) I watched the same movie or b) I'm a sick sonnava- who's just watched a lotta f-ed up movies.
It really didn't seem that bad. My main beef with the movie - and anyone who knows me knows I like horror movies - is that you come away from the film just with nothing, but a depressed feeling of "ok whats next to watch?" Even the worst, lamest b-movie horror can be fun, ranging from demons to monsters to slashers.
The real dragging point in this is that it tries to be so real. It says its based on a true story. OK - the only survivor was the guy. But he was never in the situations that the girls were in, so how do we know their situations happened the way they did? If anything it's 33.
3% true as only he really knows what happened to HIM, and not the other 2 girls. Perhaps I'm looking too much into it, but I like a little fun with my murder, and I'm getting pretty tired of these off-road middle-of-nowhere psychos who do it "just becuz".
And while I'm at it, I'd like to say I'm tired of the term "torture porn". We have a glut of movies that fuature girls being tortured these days. We had a glut of slashers in the 80's.
They werent coined "slasher porn". We had demonic/monster type movies - they werent called "demon porn". Women are in horror movies - this is a constant. Why we must use this term for this subgenre just irks me.
