Review of Wolf Creek (2005) by Steph O — 09 Oct 2010
"Wolf Creek" isn't the terrifying horror movie people told me it would be, but it's a pretty good thriller/slasher flick. All the criticism it got for being too violent... I really don't get that. There are many many films that depict violence that is a whole lot worse than what they show in "Wolf Creek". It was tame, compared to similar movies. Or do I just see too many movies? I don't know. Maybe it's because some of the violence happens to women. There are two female characters and one male - all of whom don't exactly have a great time in this movie.
Anywho, as a slasher with a pretty standard plot goes - "Wolf Creek" is good. The three main characters weren't as bland as horror movie characters usually are, the villain was completely psychotic, and there were plenty of moments that genuinely shocked me. I'm not sure why people expect anything different than what "Wolf Creek" gives you, considering what type of film it is. In any case, it's a whole lot better than "Dying Breed". I hear they're doing a sequel to this sometime soon, so it'll be interesting to see how that is received.
