Review of Wolf Creek (2005) by Charlie D — 11 Sep 2012
This movie is a fucking downer, to put it lightly. An interesting downer, I'll give it that, but a downer nonetheless. If you're looking for a fast-paced, scare-a-minute type of horror film, this isn't for you.
If you're looking for a slow burn, then maybe you should check out Wolf Creek. Nothing at all happens for the first hour. Nothing. You're introduced to 3 boring characters that you should care about but really don't; you know they're just there to act as living fodder for the inevitable, batshit crazy Aussie killer.
But when the horror kicks in, you start to care for them simply because John Jarratt is so terrifying that he makes you want to help the main characters. This isn't a fun, "Oh, look how awesome that kill was!" type of movie, it's a "Jesus, this is sickening, but I can't stop watching," type of movie.
If anything else, watch it for Jarratt's fucking horrifying performance. You'll feel grimy after sitting through this one.
