Review of Wolf Creek (2005) by Ruby H — 29 Nov 2012
For a debut this is pretty impressive. Greg McLean wrote, directed and co-produced a survivor-horror that is tensed, nasty and, much like its genre, flawed.
The movie is bit slow and some of the decisions made by the characters are so obviously wrong you get frustrated.
But it also succeeds, considering there's such a minimal body-count, only three kills but the first one, the infamous 'head-on-a-stick' scene (which, by the way, has nothing to do with any heads or any sticks) is so evil it can register as one of the most effective in modern horror. This happens in the last hellishly 30-minute ride that will definitely satisfy...if you manage to stay awake.
