Review of Wolf Creek 2 (2013) by Glen F — 09 Mar 2014
WOLF CREEK 2.
Length:- 2hr 1min.
Genre:- Horror / Thriller.
Year:- 2013.
Director:- Greg McLean.
Writer:- Greg McLean & Aaron Sterns.
Cast:- John Jarratt (Mick Taylor).
John Jarratt has come a long way from his days on Play School! Maybe that's what makes this even more scary! A guy who we remember teaching and entertaining; reading children's books, dancing and singing kiddy songs to our children is now raping and torturing innocent people for his OWN entertainment and teaching people his OWN style! (Well... the character, Mick Taylor did anyway!) Although in the movie he is still singing kiddy songs so maybe that past experience on Play School did come in handy after all! lol.
The story and script were so well written. Most of the time when I see a sequel from a big blockbuster, it doesn't even come close to the original film. But WC2 really hits the mark, in every area, it delivered! The opening scene sets the standard for the rest of the film, and it doesn't drop below that bar! Well done to the writers!
John Jarratt did an excellent job in WC the original and the sequel WC2 as Mick Taylor! His body langue and facial expressions were awesome, and he found a way of delivering his lines that was creepy in itself! He truly is a professional in his craft! He really thought through how he wanted to play the character! The other characters were equally impressive as their performance helps the audience rally behind the victims, wanting them to find an escape!
I have to say, for a horror, this was the strangest sound track to date! Timeless classics like 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight', 'Born to Be Wild' and 'Tie me Kangaroo Down Sport' that you just wouldn't except in horror movie like this. I'm not sure if it makes the movie more scary or breaks up the horror with a little comic relief! Like the movie 'Chopper', it borders on the line of almost being a black comedy... ALMOST!!!
I take my hat of to the makeup department! They did an outstanding job in doing up the bodies with wounds, scars, blood and decay! The special effects were out there too, with exploding cars, to runaway trucks, to your CGI Kangaroo's! Nicely done! Oh! and I can't go without mentioning the beautiful Australian landscape, that was just as important character as any other!
I guess the moral of the story is you can't trust just anyone! The problem is knowing WHO to trust! If you don't know someone, my advice is keep a keen eye on them and your back to the wall until a trusting relationship is established over time! There are plenty of Mick Taylors' out there!
This was a very entertaining movie! You just want to see the victims escape, everyone that crosses his path. (Well... unless you hate coppers! lol). It had you sitting on the edge of your seat when the imprisoned victims run! It's full of suspense, action and horror. It's well paced that doesn't leave you looking at the clock!
CONCLUSION:
I'm normally not a big fan of Australian movies, but Wolf Creek 2 was better than I excepted. It's a fast pace, action, horror, susspence filled thriller, that takes you on a ride you're not likely to forget in a hurry! I don't think Wolf Creek 2 is going to do much for our Australian tourism side of things, when shown overseas, but the beautiful cinema photography is at least ONE plus! lol.
Lock your car doors and don't stop for anyone as you drive to the nearest cinema, as WC2 is well worth the watch if you like a good action, horror! Stay turned also for WOLF CREEK 3, I'd say Mick Taylor, pig shooter and outback legend is not ready to hang up his rifle and knife just yet!
STAR RATING: 4/5.
