Review of Wizards (1977) by Benjmain P — 09 Aug 2009
One of my main problems with Ralph Bakshi's animation movies is that they are all style and no substance. Yes, it is nice to have more mature themed storylines with violence and swearing, but who cares if they're isn't an interesting storyline.
At 80 minutes, this movie drags on. It's the story of two wizard brothers dueling it out in a world set about 2 million and 3,000 years into the future. Bakshi uses a lot of rotoscoping, putting animation over the movements of real actors.
It's not used as much here as in The Lord of the Rings, but I kinda wished it was, because the animation is almost childish considering the storyline. Bakshi seems to think people get a kick out of big breasts and nipples showing through.
Well for the immature, it can work. Still, I liked this as good as Fire and Ice and way better than Cool World, but not as good as The Lord of the Rings.
