Review of Wizards (1977) by Rob B — 18 May 2012
Without doubt a Bakshi movie with his innovative mixing of static, animated, rotoscoped and live action material intermixed. The bizarre tale that uses it's Anti War/Nazi symbolism to enrich a sorcery fantasy tale. The shortcuts of using live action material somehow jars when they mix footage of soldiers in with the explosions and is strangely at odds with the elves and wizards.
Whatever else you have to admire and respect the amazing amount of effort and skill put into creating such a unique piece of cinema and how it's lessons aided in Bakshi's epic LotR adaptation.
