Review of Wizards (1977) by Nathaniel R — 07 May 2008
It is really hard to determine what audience this film was meant for. The cutesy elves and fairies suggest that it would be best suited for a younger audience but the frequent references to Hitler, the liberal use of profanity and the very apparent sexual overtones seem geared towards a more mature audience.
This weird clash of tones make the movie kind of hard to enjoy for either age group. I rather enjoyed some stylistic aspects of the film, specifically the end battle, but the film's quality is pretty inconsistent and overall I was kind of let down.
Likely of interest only to animation buffs and fans of Bakshi's other films.
