Review of Wizards (1977) by Mike T — 09 May 2010
Only in the 70s would this have been possible. DIY animator Ralph Bakshi has created a one-of-a-kind adventure that pits a bumbling "good" wizard sounding like George Burns against a Neo-Nazi wizard, all set in the far, post-nuclear apocalypse future.
He utilizes multiple animation techniques and is relentlessly experimental with image and color. It all adds up to a paint-spattered pseudo-psychedelic mini-masterpiece. If this sounds bizarre, it's only because formulaic (and wretchedly awful) CGI kiddie films have made it impossible for this kind of movie to exist.
