Review of Wizards (1977) by Mloy X — 01 Sep 2013
Avatar (Bob Holt): [to Weehawk] You know, the world owes you much, kid. Even if we don't take.
Another step.
In a word: weird. The movie starts off interesting enough, with the premise much like Lord of the Rings, where the world of magic is at odds with the up and coming world of technology which inevitably causes a war. The characters were pretty interesting and the animation was good but the horrible misuse of rotoscoping was very distracting and detracts from the otherwise wonderfully stylized animation. Also, the film flounders from the voice-acting because in the pursuit of being avante-garde, the dialogue just comes off as strange and unnatural: medieval characters speaking in 1940-ish jargon just doesn't mesh (surprisingly enough) and feels like a very misguided effort. Overall, this film could have been executed much better.
