Review of Witness (1985) by Deb S — 31 Jan 2010
The movie tells the story of LA police detective John Book (Harrison Ford) who is assigned to the case of finding the murderer of a fellow cop. The only witness to the crime is an eight year old Amish boy named Samuel Lapp (Lukas Haas) who is visiting the city with his mother, Rachel (Kelly McGillis). Harrison Ford goes undercover in Amish country to protect the boy until he is called to testify at the murder trial. A clash of two cultures is rarely and so beautifully examined as in this movie. The plot is creative and Harrison Ford's performance was tough, sympathetic, and convincing.
The showdown is inevitable as the tension mounts skillfully. A wonderful film that I am always tempted into seeing again and again. It has action, murder, romance, jealousy, beauty, and one thing is for sure, Witness is a great and unique film.
