Review of Witness (1985) by Matt F — 17 Jun 2011
Another great, underrated picture from the 1980s, the beautifully photographed "Witness" works on so many levels. Beginning as a moderately entertaining cop thriller, the movie takes a magnificent turn into the realm of tragic romance.
Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis both deliver wonderfully understated and nuanced performances that keep this movie afloat through some of the the quieter moments. Finally, this movie also serves as a great juxtaposition of the pacifism of the rural Amish culture and the violence of the stereotypical American culture.
In short, "Witness" is an forgotten gem that deserves multiple viewings.
