Review of Withnail & I (1987) by Vikki W — 10 Jul 2008
Richard E. Grant delivers a spectacularly convincing performance in "Withnail and I" as an unemployed actor with a career that is quickly fading. Paul McGann is wonderful as well, but it's really Grant that gets the credit.
He captures the self-destructive and aggressive behavior of his character so well that it becomes almost amusing at times. "Withnail and I" does lag in some moments, but its fine acting, thoughtful (and quotable) screenplay, and confident direction make it a tremendously entertaining watch.
