Based upon his close encounters with a lecherous Franco Zeffirelli and an obnoxious flatmate played memorably by Richard E Grant, Bruce Robinson's directorial debut about two eccentric alcoholic actors actors out of work and down on luck on a countryside holiday by mistake is an acquired taste that over the years mellows enigmatically to become an oft-quoted British comedy of cult status.
