Review of With Honors (1994) by Amber S — 19 Jul 2009
"I'm a bum. But bear in mind, I'm a Harvard bum.".
- Simon Wilder.
In the ivy-covered halls of Harvard, Simon Wilder is an alumnus of the University of Life and the School of Hard Knocks as well as a scholar of the street. But he doesn't have an Ivy League degree. Yet when it comes to life's important lessons, the feisty Simon meets senior Monty Kessler, who would have nothing to do with the homeless man if not for his only copy of his senior thesis. Not just any term paper, but also of Monty's life. He'll return it for food, a place to stay and, as a favor, one page at a time. A new life is beginning for Monty and his roomies, who now has their reason to open their hearts and minds.
Directed by Alek Keshishian, With Honors features great acting performances from the following cast:
1.) Brendan Fraser (Monty Kessler).
2.) Moira Kelly (Courtney).
3.) Patrick Dempsey (Everrett).
4.) Josh Hamilton (Jeff).
5.) Joe Pesci (Simon Wilder).
Back in my senior high school year I watched With Honors as part of a class assignment and learned a lot of it - for once. And, yes, I did like it. It was an example of college life where you were about to graduate on the top of class by writing an important term paper and meeting a new friend who'd like to help you achieve success. As for the great acting performances, I was familiar with a Mummy adventurer and a Home Alone thief, but I had no idea that McDreamy was in this film. The storyline is dramatic in plot, not boring at all, and - since I understood it well - it helped me get through my viewing experience, so I'll say that With Honors is a great film. Once you watch this, you'll learn that if you want to get a degree, go to Harvard. And if you want to learn about life, go see a homeless bum like Simon Wilder.
