Review of Wit (2001) by Newt C — 12 Oct 2008
Some interesting reflections on Donne's Holy Sonnets, but it's yoked rather violently to a depressing and stagy plot about cancer and medicine, etc. Perhaps that's the point, to perform the violent conceit-making that Dr.
Johnson sees as the major characteristic of metaphysical poetry. If so, how neat, but it's still just a pretty good movie.
