Review of Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies (1999) by Zach M — 27 Dec 2007
A second helping. This one is inferior to the original. I mean if he old one had plot holes this one has them in spades. But once again I say WHO CARES? When was this series meant to be serious? Never. What can I say that you don't already know? What can I add? Not much. You know how this movie is, but I'll say it all anyway.
Andrew Divoff is once again great as the Djinn. The tone is a bit more humuorus this time around. When the Djinn is sent to prison, thats the highlight of the film. He really does some funny (and fucked up) shit.
They kept the same spirit of the original which I think was important. Little CGI and lots of makeup. It keeps the atmosphere of the film. We get some new gruesome scenes and I actually liked the way the Djinn entered our world. It was different yet creepy like the original.
It's an easy watch, you don't need to have seen the original to get into it. The rules apply here as well. You have to know what to expect watching it. The movie isn't smart by any means. The sole purpose is entertainment with some gory effects. If you like the original then you'll probably like this.
