Review of Winter's Bone (2010) by Amber V — 06 Jan 2013
Jennifer Lawrence delivers a solid perfomance of an iron-willed 17-year-old, determined to find her father dead or alive in order to keep her family together; a small family she carries on her young shoulders.
Characters like Ree Dolly and their struggles are always inspiring, but I'd have to say the cold, dark rural poverty portrayed is what resulted even more striking. Seemed like a civilization stuck in time, and it's probably a very accurate illustration of many areas of the Midwest/South US, people used to the cities rarely think about, or are even aware of.
