Review of Winter's Bone (2010) by Mike P — 06 Nov 2013
Jennifer Lawrence's breakthrough, oscar nominated performance as Ree a 17 year old girl in search of her meth cooking, missing father who without saying so much is likely killed for crossing his business partners.
Without proof of his death Ree and her two younger siblings, and mentally inept mother will be thrown out of their home as per her father's bail collateral. As Rhea seeks answers she encounters shady drug runners and hostility from both her extended family and anyone who knows she's barking up the wrong tree.
A gripping, perfectly acted, bleak drama that has launched one of the most promising acting talents of recent memory to super stardom. john Hawkes portrayal as Ree's uncle, Tear Drop only adds power to this indisputable noir esque drama.
Some may find fault in the pace of the film, but only those incapable of letting their mind drift to other places. Without a doubt one of the top dramas of the turn of the decade.
