Review of Winter's Bone (2010) by Black R — 04 Dec 2011
This movie's portrayal of white-trash america is so relentlessly hopeless, both visually and storywise that it chilled me to the bone.
I love this new wave of films of hyper-realism and downer endings that is emerging today, such as No Country for Old Men, Blue Valentine, The Road and Precious. While these films are tough to watch, I appreciate their no bullshit approach to life's hardships of the common man/women. Jennifer Lawrence is also very convincing as the headstrong impoverished youth on a mission.
