Review of Winter's Bone (2010) by Gerardo R — 20 Jul 2012
A very strong character driven movie. It is all about the mood. Here you are introduced into a world far in the countryside where people operate with different instincts and code of honor. In a way, it is disturbing to most reasonable people.
It is a slowly, methodical mystery movie. The sheriff comes to the door to inform a 17 year old caring for the family that if the father does not show up for his court hearing, the house will be collected as part of the bond contract.
The pacing and realism make this movie stand out. Highly recommended as an independent film, with strong character studies and successful at creating a mood and inviting the spectator into the predicament of the characters.
