Review of Winter's Bone (2010) by Sam S — 25 Aug 2012
This movie is a strong reminder to never visit the Ozarks. Filmed on location in Missouri, the Ozarks are a scary place. However, it is an interesting location, because not many see the way people live there.
The best way I can describe it is a white-trash thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence. The story revolves around JLaw's character searching for her Father, who has put down their house as collection for bail.
She has to hunt him down and bring him to court in order to keep the house, whilst taking care of her Mom and siblings at the same time. It is clear that the mountain people keep to themselves and refuse to get involved with anything; even if they may know something.
If you push too much; you're liable to get seriously hurt or killed for asking too many questions. There is something with the Father which I was confused about, but I can't really talk about it without spoiling the movie.
Good movie though; just different.
