Review of Winter's Bone (2010) by Km Y — 21 Nov 2012
I was so astonished by the powerful and raw performances that it felt like a punch in the gut just to watch this thing. I have been in the deep dark south and I know that it can get this backward and scary.
It's a different kind of America down there, impoverished, murky and desperate, but with a strange code of honor that is beyond the understanding of those in the more civilized regions of the country.
It could be described as the land of feral humans, surreal and ungovernable. This film captures the drug-fueled insanity of the wretched south perfectly. You won't enjoy yourself watching this film, but you won't forget it either.
