Review of Winter's Bone (2010) by Andrew S — 08 Feb 2013
The Missouri countryside and the people that populate are as a friend of mine putting it decaying and clinging to a life that had seemed forgotten in the urban based and focused countries. Silence both as a social code and the lack of dialogue in this realistic portayal of a impoverished family with their back against the wall with property about to lost in response to bond payment is a strength and adds uniqueness to this film.
Lawrence and Hawkes dominate the screen and Hawkes in particular holds our attention when we are uncertain whether he is friend or foe. An unsung Best Pic nominee and a good platform for Lawrence and Hawke in the acting categories.
I add one more film to the list that was more powerful and intriguing than the King's Speech. Final first time rating: 9/10.
