Review of Winter Sleep (2014) by Romain M — 19 Jul 2014
Another long movie (3 hr 16 min) was watched today in #nziff and there was not even one minute I was bored to continue watching.
It is certainly a brilliant masterpiece again from Ceylan. The scene, dialogues, stories, settings and emotions in the movie had grabbed me and I am sure it will stay in my mind forever just like other good movies did. The movie was filled by conflicts in relationships, loneliness, moral dilemma, and gaps between wealthy and poor, but no one in it was bad or wanted to hurt others although the hurting was everywhere. It is like the quote used in the movie: the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I like what Ceylan did by giving everyone in the movie a chance to speak out, a chance to let others hear them before judgement. This is the honesty I admire a lot for.
This is the kind of movie truly deserves the Palme d'Or.
