Review of Winter Light (1963) by Ricardo V — 06 Aug 2007
I believe this film is extremely important to watch because of the exchange between the main protagonist and his mistress. this section of the film is one of my favorite exchanges i've ever seen. while watching I was struck by Bergman's use of words and how utterly loathsome they made the main character but how I somehow could understand it.
this is a really good film, I would give it 4.5 stars but the first 10 minutes of the film were extremely boring in that they only showed a church service with bible passages and the eating/drinking of Jesus's body and blood.
I've seen that before, though I undestand it was needed for the set-up of the film, it still kept me a little too anxious. but when the story catches some steam, it's really something.
