Bergman said this was his favorite of his own films, that everything he wanted it to be is what it is. the quintessential "God's silence" film is, to be sure, bleak as fuck. but it is an exceptionally acted and unconventionally shot piece of thought-theater that anyone serious about the nature of man to God should see.
