Review of Winter Light (1963) by Darryl J — 10 Jul 2008
This film is really hard to explain. Almost everyone can relate to it's story. If you can't,you're kidding yourself. No one is ALWAYS 100% sure.
It's impeccably acted and well shot. The winter setting and the cold, almost lifeless interiors made for an even more intense experience.
I love Ingmar Bergman for never blatantly putting down religion or saying it's wrong/right. He simply presents us with characters who we can usually relate to and presents his points to us in an intelligent way while always using his talent of making everything seem deeply personal.
