Review of Winter Light (1963) by Buddy K — 28 May 2010
A wonderfully small scale film that delves into a crisis of faith better than any other film I've ever seen. Gunnar Bjornstrand and Ingrid Thulin are terrific in the principle roles and Max von Sydow turns a small part into something incredibly memorable.
The cinematography is great and makes the lighting and the winter landscape seem like a character in its own right. Ties with The Seventh Seal as Bergman's best (that I've seen thus far) and one of the best films of all time.
