Review of Winnie the Pooh (2011) by Philip P — 26 Oct 2011
It is hard to even rate something like "Winnie the Pooh" with it being a kind of a childhood gem that you would never even think to criticize. This remains true as Disney was smart enough not to try and modernize the classic tale of Christopher Robin and his stuffed animals by computer animating them or hiring big name celebrities to do voice work.
No, Disney keeps it simple here and doesn't overstay its welcome. It could almost hardly be called a feature film at an hour and some change but it is a charming little film that is cute and credible.
It has music, jokes and good ole hand drawn animation. It isn't long enough for you to feel you wasted any time and the story it tells contains just the right amount of childhood imagination the young ones will be entertained and you will be reminded of how blissful childood really was.
"Winnie the Pooh" on many levels is a nostalgic trip for people, something they immediately latch onto when they see the full cast of greatly defined characters march onto the screen. Whether it be Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit or Kangaroo, your favorite animal from the hundred acre wood gets a special moment in the film while still staying centered on everyone's favorite stuffed bear.
This is nothing new, nothing we probably haven't seen before, but it is just the feeling of hanging out with old friends that will allow you to love this little movie. Seeing old faces never felt so pleasant.
