Review of Wings of Desire (1987) by Dave I — 10 Jul 2008
The opening shots reveal a black and white aerial view of Berlin, divided in two halves. Two angels watch out over the city and listen in on people's thoughts, unseen and unheard. The film flows largely without plot until one of the voyeurs decides to "fall" to humanity, and wakes up, in color, on the West side of the Berlin Wall.
It's a simple bit of symbolism, but so emotive.
