Review of Wings of Desire (1987) by Martin R — 20 Dec 2010
This film is a work of art. The film completely sweeps us up literally, making us feel like we are a part of the city and the angels are among us, listening to our thoughts. It's a film like no other, an original-poetic and spiritual.
Wings of Desire flows beautifully from one scene to the next accompanied by a wonderful score, poetic dialogue and stunning cinematography. At times I found the film to be quite sad and other times romantic.
What I found interesting was that Bruno Ganz's character decides he wants to become human, he loves this woman and wants to experience life like drinking coffee or getting hurt. I guess the film reminds of us the little joys we take for granted.
Speaking of Ganz, hes great in this..I can't believe he also played Hitler after watching this LOL. The two performances couldn't be anymore different. While this may be a difficult film for most people to watch and it just take a lot of concentration.
..I would love to see it again. It's a very special film. I feel like each viewing would open the film up more and give me a different experience each time.
