Review of Winged Migration (2001) by Walt H — 03 Aug 2009

Two very different movies. Winged Migration is the better of the two. Even if you don't like birds you will find this fascinating. The Making of is as good as the movie itself, testifying to the incredible effort that went into making a movie with birds literally within reach while in flight. I wondered what happened to the little groups of birds that had been imprinted with humans as their mothers; I suppose they became one with their species although they never say. 8/10.

28 Days Later more than anything reminded me of the old movie Omega Man. The actors do convince you that they think they're among the last people on Earth (or at least England). Possibly the most interesting thing that happens is right at the beginning when the eco-terrorists unwittingly and rather stupidly release the epidemic onto themselves and thus humanity. It has its moments that raise it above the level of schlock, but there's a sense of been there, done that about it all. 6.5/10.
