Review of Windtalkers (2002) by Jonathan G — 03 Apr 2010
Windtalkers was all wrong. If you're looking for great war movie, try Saving Private Ryan or Thin Red Line. This movie will ruin that genre for you. First, don't cast Nicolas Cage, he looks like a bumbling idiot in nearly every scene.
The dialog was weak and just silly. The war scenes looked nice, lots of stuff blowing up, but ridiculously made some soldiers look indestructible while others completely expendable. The Navajo nation deserved so much more of a tribute than this terrible movie.
One thing that really bothered me was how GREAT the lighting was in this movie. Yes, that shouldn't bother some one, but watch it. It doesn't feel, raw, dirty, and gritty. Everyone looks beautiful in every shot.
That's just not how I like my war movies. It's too perfect. Also, James Horner over-did it on the soundtrack. It feels too perfect, I thought the opening was a cheesy dream sequence because the music was SO overly dramatic.
