The Navajo Codetalkers had an unimaginable impact for the United States in the Pacific Theater. The story would be good if it actually touched on that other than for a few moments and only in a few aspects.

The two main characters in this film discredit this film's story. Nicolas Cage, the obvious lead to the film, is one of the most perplexing actors in the industry today. He gets several lead roles. However, his presence in these films usually leads to their disaster. His portrayal of Sergeant Joe Enders is no different. It is at some points laughable. For example, in the scene where he destroys the model of the church. However, Cage is not the worst thing this production has to offer. Adam Beach's portrayal of Private Ben Yahzee is hard to comprehend. It is very uneven.

The film is very weak and has several flaws. The leap that Private Ben Yahzee takes from scared and seemingly pacifist person to crazed cold blooded vengeful killer. The story is filled with cliches and an extremely predictable ending. The only thing that is positive about this film is the combat scenes, which were filmed well by director John Woo.
