Review of Wind River (2017) by Brandon W — 26 Jan 2018
Wind River is directed and written by Taylor Sheridan in his, technically, directorial debut, and it stars Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olson in a now-Western murder mystery film about a murder that happened in Wind River, and a tracker name Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner) teams up with a F.
B.I agent name Jane Banner (Elizabeth Olson) to find the person that caused it to happen. I've enjoyed the films that Taylor Sheridan has written like Sicario and Hell or High Water, and I was curious to see what he can do as a director for this movie, which I thought was basically a detective novel coming to life, but wasn't from any source material, and a very well-written one in that.
Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olson are terrific in this and have great chemistry together in this case that they're in, and the characters are interesting as Jeremy Renner isn't necessarily an innocent man while Elizabeth Olson's character is not the most skilled officer, but is very optimistic of the task at hand and isn't trying to do anything reckless.
The script by Taylor Sheridan is really good that has some interesting culture of Indians, a setting that you don't usually see in films, and giving some interesting backstories to the murderers and their motivation behind it.
I was interested to see where it's going, and there was an action scene that I thought was really tense by the end of it. Wind River is a fantastic film that I'm interested to see where the sequel to Sicario is going to go.
