Its unflinching, and a little scary. Wind River boasts good acting, but its primarily elevated by masterful direction and writing by Sheridan, who combines sweeping takes with simple yet effective dialogue.
He's not trying to make an elaborate mystery. He just wants to grab your attention, suffocate it, and finally let you gasp for air when the resolution hits.
