Review of Win Win (2011) by Bry G — 29 Sep 2011
This is a gem. maybe a little predictable and in the hands of a lesser director this could easily have fallen into lifetime-channel schlock. but after two near perfect movies (the visitor, the station agent), thomas mcarthy writes and directs another total winner.
I was hooked from the opening scene, this is giamatti's finest performance - he made us all laugh and wince and completely owned his screen time. always dug amy ryan in 'the office' but she's at a whole other level here too.
even the kid played the perfectly disaffected teen who I am all too familiar with (though his acting kinda fell apart in the last 20 when he had to call up some rather hefty emotion). great writing and killer casting.
see it.
