Review of Win Win (2011) by Shawn B — 01 Jan 2012
Win Win is quaint in its approach. The actors mostly give understated but good performances, the story has a lot to say in a relatively quiet way, but at the same time, there is a lot going on here. Win Win gets this perfect balance of imperfect people that most films aren't nuanced enough to capture.
Giamatti's character is a good guy who has made some bad decisions. We are able to compare him and others who make similar if not exact decisions and see how our decisions don't define who we are at heart.
Tom McCarthy is such a fantastic writer. I have loved the characters and nuance in plot and psychological dilemma in each The Station Agent, The Visitor and now Win Win.
