Review of Wimbledon (2004) by Wendy H — 28 Jul 2008
Never ever seen the clips or heard about this film.
Bought the dvd for the subject matter and my curiosity as to where I've seen Paul Bettany...and what a huge surprise!
Surprise #1: Fun artistic intro with a catchy tune that fits the title to the T! Surprise #2: Narrated by Paul Bettany scores extra points with me. Surprise #3: A couple of unexpected faces appears especially the eccentric cyclist! Surprise #4: Paul is either being himself or he's a truly amazing actor! Surprise #5: Paul and Kirsten's on-screen chemistry radiates beautifully.
With interesting camera shots, special effects, comically exaggerated tennis movements, great music and gorgeous British scenery, this light-hearted romantic comedy is ACE! Love the film!
Just found out in wikipedia that Paul played Silas in 'Da Vinci Code'. That's where I saw him first. Discovery of an underrated actor. : ).
Next on my 'To Buy' dvd shopping list - 'A Knights Tale' starring Paul Bettany as Geoffrey Chaucer. Brings back memories of A-Level English classroom literature.
