Review of Wimbledon (2004) by Cass . — 28 Aug 2008
Paul Bettany is Peter Colt, former hot shot tennis player, but now down and out with less ambitions on the court. Eventually he bumps into Lizzie Bradbury (Kirsten Dunst) a young and upcoming tennisplayer that changes his thoughts on tennis and the strenght of love.
This is a sappy and sticky piece of film. Using tennis as the focal point is ok, sport movies tend to add another dimension to a story with the sport itself. But, that is not the problem with "Wimbledon". The problem is a story that is so sweet it makes you cringe. I have no issue with Bettany, nor Dunst, but their love story in "Wimbledon" makes me wanna barf. It is just over the top with all the cliches you can imagine. Come on, was this the best version of the script that was made into a movie?
Nah, this is not of my liking. Barf, barf, barf!
